Dinhousen
EEMM Dinhousen is a singer, songwriter coming from a family full of musicians, since her early years of life she was exposed to all kinds of music and just for watching her mom singing all the time, she noticed she was also good at it and got the love for doing any kind of performing arts as well. She would constantly be singing everything she listened to, but she mentioned being a huge fan of Sia, Lady Gaga, Adele and a few others like Ariana Grande later on time when she was younger. EEMM has admitted that she would not sing in front of her family as a kid, she preferred to practice at home when she was by herself. “I have this mindset we’re I’m really respectful with somebody’s peace, if you are at the house with me, it’s a hundred percent chance I’m not singing in front of you, because I have a naturally strong voice just like my mother, when she sings it looks like she has a damn microphone inside her throat, and the songs that I like are really high so if you didn’t ask me to sing that exact song for you I’m just not going to sing cause I don’t wanna bother you. What if you are not in the mood for that song? What if you are trying to read something or listen to a video or podcast? What if you just want peace? All these questions would come to my mind so I would practice by myself instead and record it just so I see my progress through the time, which was actually insane”.
Her first language was Spanish, not English, “I actually wrote a song at 13, and discovered I love to do it and that creating melodies was really easy for me, I had my ukulele and my piano with me” she says, “I play the piano really good, but it’s just a natural thing though, I play it by ear, and just by looking at it or some weird way that my brain just gets it when I want to play a song that I like, but if you ask me the name of the chord, scale and all that stuff I don’t know a single thing of what I’m doing, that’s just a thing I was born with, I know one of my uncles has it as well but that’s it”. However, she admitted that she did learn how to play the ukulele with YouTube tutorials at that age.
EEMM gets into the social media eyes as a ‘tiktoker’ going viral with her first videos ever made on February 25, 2023, saying “it kinda was like an accident, I basically only uploaded that one video for myself cause I thought I looked cool wearing a suit and I recorded a TikTok with a little dog, it looked like we we’re matching since the dog has black and white hair and my suit was the same. The next day I apparently got a lot of views and it just kept growing. So, I took it as an opportunity thinking that it could maybe be useful in the future for something.” Says EEMM without knowing that the next year she would be finally writing her own songs.
“I was watching somebody interviewing the singer Young Miko who I love, on YouTube, and there was this part when she basically says - ‘well, if I like women why the f*ck am I gonna write about men or for them?’ - then something instantly clicked on my head”. The reason why EEMM didn’t start writing her songs before was because she wanted to do it in English instead of her first language, “it would’ve been all full of lies, I wouldn’t write about what I really wanted to, I didn’t want people or my family to be able to listen to the feelings that I wanted to talk about at that time just like anxiety for example. And I was NOT going to be talking about men all the time like the regular songs, I would see it kind of embarrassing back in the day, but now I’m aware that I’m just bisexual and I just like to write about women mostly.
After Young Miko’s comment she mentioned it opened her eyes about this possibility and that’s how ‘It’s Just Another Day’ her first song was created. “Then, everything started to make sense. I had a professional microphone because there was a time where I had a small podcast, I was no longer 13, I knew what I wanted to say and I had a job so I had pretty much good income too, plus, I had this TikTok platform with over 140k followers where I could use to share my music to the people and everything related”.
“None of the things I tried before worked because it was this what I was meant to be since the beginning. Now I see it and it’s obvious but at those moments it was just me trying to do things that I thought I like but I really feel like the universe was preparing me for the future and what was coming for me because by the time I realized, I had every single thing I needed at the palm of my hand”.
In October 2023 she started working with her brother Vladimir Hull and her producer being her cousin André Hull. They all three work together for her music and are known as ‘The Hull Siblings’.
EEMM said to herself she knew she had to do it now because she had everything she needed for it and there was no excuse. “It’ll be the biggest regret of my life if I choose not to do this cause I know people that would do so many things to be in my spot right know, and I’m not going to let what is obviously meant for me go to the trash.”
On April 19th, 2024, is when the song titled “It’s Just Another Day” comes out as well as the Official Music Video. “I wrote it after getting out of a 7+ months situation of harassment”. EEMM tries to raise her voice when it comes to women's rights and validating the power that women can have. “I prioritize so much having women working with me as well as Latin people, the fact that pretty much all of my content is in English just like my music, is just a decision I made because of the way I can express myself with it, I just feel more comfortable with it, and everyone should be allowed to express themselves in a unique way without being judged.”
After that, the single ‘FAKE HATER’ came out the 26th of July 2024, showing a different angle of the artist with a very contagious beat that proved to hook many new people with her music drawing attention
Now, EEMM Dinhousen has finally released her first EP called ‘DON’T TALK ABOUT THOSE’ this November 21st, 2024. Coming out with 5 new tracks each one used to talk about different topics society does not usually want you to talk about.
Starting with the intro which makes a reference to “The Shadow work” from Carl Jung’s theory of the shadow, reminding us how the unconscious mind contains repressed aspects of ourselves that are integral to our identity and the fact that if we don’t learn to face our own shadows, we will continue to see them in others because the world outside of you is only a reflection of the world inside of you.
Just with that intro, you can start connecting the rest of the songs together which mention topics like criticism, feeling alone, family splits, hard situations in relationships and friendships as well, each one projecting the unique true feeling of the song and what she’s talking about just like if you were the one going through it being able to understand every single part of it.
Now the Artist finds herself on a new level of her carrier, working with new projects while she’s gratefully receiving the feedback from the people listening to her new EP and her music in general.
